Coyote Baiting, What Lesson Taught?

Ripping flesh with their teeth
The hounds tear at the animal
Tortured and bleeding it fights for survival
The agonizing pain is so deep
Blood runs from the open wounds
There is a pitiful cry
As the coyote takes its last breathe
Yet still it finds no peace
Its limbs are ripped from their sockets
The snapping of bones is heard
And there among the onlookers
A child in his teens
Feeding on the violence
He envisions the kill
He looks at the dead carcass
The coyotes face is dim
There is a haze of recognition
In the coyotes likeness the boy sees his father
Violence begets violence
Lessons are learned
And vengeance comes swiftly
